You have the ability to control Honor's latest phone using your Eyes

During the recent Qualcomm 2023 Snapdragon Summit, Chinese phone manufacturer Honor unveiled its latest flagship, the Magic 6. Amid discussions about AI, one standout feature was the phone's eye-controlled functionality.

In the keynote presentation, a glimpse of this technology was shared through a visual demonstration. It depicted a woman using her phone with a portion of the Uber app displayed at the screen's top, similar to a Live Activity. She effortlessly expanded the app to full screen by simply changing the direction of her gaze.

Honor refers to this technology as "Magic Capsule," though a more precise term for it is "eye-tracking-based multimodal interaction."

The upcoming Magic 6 will introduce this feature alongside a virtual assistant powered by Qualcomm's on-device AI. This virtual assistant can perform tasks like curating videos on your device based on specific criteria, refining them according to other attributes, and creating new videos featuring your selected clips.

The practicality of this component is not yet clear, as the demo video doesn't provide a real-life representation. It gives off an impression of being to a greater extent an exhibit included as opposed to something with immediate real-world applications. Many people may likewise have worries about their smartphones following their eye movement.

However, eye tracking could prove useful when your hands are occupied or for individuals with disabilities.

The term "multi-modal" suggests that gaze tracking is just one aspect of the system and may be combined with other gestures for reliable operation. This could be similar to how PSVR 2 games use eye-tracking to highlight objects before confirming a selection.

While Honor has not announced a specific release date for the Magic 6, Qualcomm has indicated that phones featuring its latest flagship chipset will start appearing in the coming weeks.
