Samsung Unveils Latest Smartphone RAM Innovation, Setting New Speed Records
Samsung has raised the bar in smartphone memory technology, outperforming its previous achievements. Last year, SK Hynix introduced LPDDR5T, the world's fastest RAM for smartphones, boasting speeds of 9.6 Gbps. Now, Samsung has surpassed this with its latest innovation, LPDDR5X RAM, achieving speeds of 10.7 Gbps, securing its position as the fastest RAM available.
This advancement signifies a significant leap from Samsung's earlier LPDDR5X RAM, which operated at 8.5 Gbps, showcasing a notable 25% increase in performance. Furthermore, Samsung's adoption of a newer 12nm process allows for the creation of 32 GB packages, enabling higher memory capacities within smaller chip sizes.
Beyond speed improvements, Samsung is positioning this new LPDDR5X RAM for AI applications, recognizing the need for high-memory configurations in modern generative AI models like ChatGPT. This development not only benefits mobile devices but also holds promise for servers, offering improved power efficiency and extended low-power capabilities.
Anticipation is high as Samsung prepares for mass production of the 10.7 Gbps LPDDR5X RAM in the latter half of 2024. With smartphones and other devices set to leverage this cutting-edge technology by year-end, Samsung is already looking ahead to the development of the next-generation LPDDR6 RAM.
