"The Nothing Phone 2a Possibly Doesn't Include a Key Feature"
Fresh rumors are circulating about a forthcoming Nothing smartphone, but unlike its predecessors, it appears to be lacking a significant element that contributed to Nothing's distinction. According to leaks disclosed by Steve McFly (via SmartPrix), the forthcoming Nothing Phone 2a will forgo the company's innovative Glyph lighting system in favor of a plain back panel.
Alleged official renders showcase the back panel of Nothing's upcoming midrange smartphone. It's adorned in white, with two vertically aligned camera lenses positioned in the top-left corner, reminiscent of Nothing's prior phone designs. The Nothing Phone 2a still retains its transparent-style design, allowing internal components to be visible through the back panel. However, it remains uncertain whether the phone boasts a genuine clear back or if the components are merely an image printed beneath the panel.
Conspicuously absent is the Glyph lighting system. A distinctive feature of Nothing's phones, the Glyph comprises lights beneath the phone's back panel that illuminate in various ways to convey notifications and battery status, and can also function as a camera flash or flashlight. Given that the Nothing Phone 2a is slated to be a mid-range device, it's understandable that compromises would need to be made somewhere; it's just unfortunate that those compromises had to affect Nothing's most prominent distinguishing feature. This depiction contradicts earlier leaks, which had suggested that the Nothing Phone 2a would still incorporate Glyph lights, albeit in a reduced quantity.
This isn't the first mention we've had of the Nothing Phone 2a. Previous leaks have hinted that the phone will debut with a starting price of $400, undercutting notable midrange competitors like the iPhone SE and Samsung Galaxy S23 FE. In terms of specifications, leaks have been quite generous, with expectations of the MediaTek Dimensity 7200 processor powering the device, alongside 128GB of storage and 8GB of RAM. Of particular interest, numerous rumors suggest the phone will feature a 120Hz 6.7-inch AMOLED display, a noteworthy inclusion for a device in the $400 price range.
Nothing has confirmed that it will be hosting an event at Mobile World Congress (MWC) on February 27, leading to speculation that the Nothing Phone 2a will be unveiled at that time. According to earlier leaks, it will be available in four regions, including Europe, India, and Japan.
