Microsoft Issues Warning About Critical Bug in Windows 11 Installer Media

Windows 11 installer media bug

Microsoft has issued a warning about a bug affecting manually created Windows 11 installer media.

USB or CD media containing the October or November 2024 updates may prevent new installations from receiving future security updates. According to Microsoft’s known issues page, devices installed with this affected media may be permanently unable to receive updates. However, systems updated via Windows Update or the Microsoft Update Catalog are unaffected.

Microsoft’s Solution
To resolve the issue, Microsoft recommends recreating installation media using the December 2024 patch, released on December 10, 2024. For those who have already installed Windows with the problematic media, reinstalling the OS using the corrected files is the only solution. To avoid the problem, ensure that installation media for Windows 11 version 24H2 is updated with the latest patches.

Bleeping Computer has also reported several notable bugs in Windows 11 version 24H2, including serious audio problems, issues with Google Workspace Sync, and compatibility issues with Ubisoft games. Despite efforts to address these, these persistent issues raise concerns about the stability of version 24H2.

Stay Updated
Microsoft’s advisory underscores the importance of keeping installation tools and operating systems up to date. To safeguard against potential vulnerabilities and improve system performance, users are urged to take action and use official update channels like Windows Update as soon as possible.
