PTA and PEMRA have been instructed to remove all betting websites during the Pakistan-Australia series.

"Ministry Crackdown on Betting Ads in Pakistan-Australia Series"

The Ministry of Information and Broadcasting has released a strongly-worded letter denouncing the abundant showcasing of betting company advertisements in the recent first test match between Pakistan and Australia.

The ministry has ordered the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) and Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (PEMRA) to take strong action against betting websites for clear violations during the media coverage of Pakistan's cricket tour of Australia, particularly in the inaugural test match.

The notification highlights explicit instructions prohibiting the broadcast of advertisements for betting companies or their proxies, emphasizing the responsibility of those involved to comply with ministry directives. PEMRA is urged to revoke the landing rights of TV channels that have failed to adhere to the guidelines.

Additionally, the notification advises the Pakistan Television Corporation (PTV) to address the matter with its parent companies and, if necessary, terminate agreements that do not align with ad placement guidelines.

Moreover, the communication urges the PTA to take immediate action against illegal betting, gambling, and casino companies operating in Pakistan. It suggests the establishment of a dedicated unit to monitor and curb such activities.

This event follows a recent scandal in the Pakistan Super League, involving implicated betting companies. The ensuing controversy resulted in a prohibition of betting ads, with some players subsequently rejecting sponsorships from these entities.
